Hudson County is fast becoming a prized destination for visitors wanting to get in on the recent microbrewery craze. The area is proving to be the perfect spot to achieve local brews unlike any other.
Hudson County has a rich history of alcohol production, more than any other part of the state. The first brewery in New Jersey was founded here before the United States even existed! Started in 1641 in what is now Hoboken, production only increased from there. By the early 1900’s there were 53 breweries in Hudson County, and they were thriving! Unfortunately, the combination of Prohibition and the Great Depression did irreparable damage to the beer industry, and by the late 1930’s all 53 breweries were closed.
However, recent years have shown that Hudson County is finding its way back to its distilling roots, and now breweries and distilleries are popping up all over the county!
There is a brewery/distillery here for everyone. You can sample the award-winning gluten free beer at Departed Soles, the only celiac certified gluten free beer in New Jersey. If you feel up to a challenge, you can even learn to make your own beer at one of the Thirsty Quaker’s beer making classes. There is no shortage of amazing things to see and do in Hudson County, and our breweries and distilleries are no exception, come see where the magic happens today!
