Museum of Jersey City History presents “Horseshoe Empire”
June 10, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - June 18, 2023 @ 3:30 pm
$10 – $15“Horseshoe Empire,” is a play about one of the most famous figures in Jersey City history; Frank “I’m the Law” Hague. Horseshoe Empire takes place in 1928, in the Horseshoe slum of Jersey City, where people of Irish decent were often discriminated against. Hungry to escape his low status, Teddy Devlin aligns himself with Mayor Hague. While proud to be a part of the machine that empowers the Irish, Teddy struggles to accept the tactics used to get ahead. The story asks, “Could our personal comfort keep us from asking questions?”; “When one immigrant group rises, must another fall behind?”; “Have we changed much in the last 100 years?”; and “How easy is it to turn your back on Democracy?”.
The performances are scheduled to perform June 10-18, 2023 at Museum of Jersey City History, 298 Academy Street in Jersey City.
