Vacations may be on hold, but you can replicate travel’s best experiences in Hudson County, New Jersey, starting with the area’s array of outdoor adventures. Try kayaking, standup paddle-boarding, sailing, and jet skiing at Hoboken’s Pier 13. Or, head to Liberty State Park, where you can catch a Statue Cruises boat to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, followed by immersive adventures like boating, canoeing, hiking, and biking. Both Hoboken and Jersey City are quick ferry, bus, PATH train, or rideshare trips away.

Nature enthusiasts, listen up: One of Hudson County’s local favorites, the Hackensack Riverkeeper Eco-Cruises in Secaucus, take you through the Meadowland marshes on 30-foot pontoon boats. You’ll learn about the area’s environment, conservation efforts, and history, while enjoying a fun and serene expedition—local wildlife sightings very much included. If you’d rather paddle yourself, try kayaking Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse. Hoboken and Secaucus are easily accessible via train, bus, or rideshare. Liberty State Park is also home to a variety of wildlife and scenic nature experiences, including kayak eco-tours, which you can book by phone (201) 915-3400 x202, as well as the Richard J. Sullivan Natural Area, where you can explore one of the Hudson River’s few remaining tidal marshes by foot.

Cyclists and runners can also enjoy one of the area’s most breathtakingly scenic routes: the nearly 20-mile-long Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. This bucket-list biking and running route winds through Hudson County’s best waterfront locales, with New York City vistas the entire way. Like much of Hudson County, the walkway is accessible by ferry, bus, PATH train, or rideshare. To experience the full route, simply start in Bayonne or Jersey City and head north! For even more sightseeing cycling fun, try the Hudson Bike Loop, a 10-mile, roughly two-hour, bike route that takes you along the Manhattan and Hudson County riverfront paths, with scenic, bike-friendly NY Waterway ferry rides connecting you from one waterfront to the other.

And, with an expansive network of parks, Hudson County’s adventure opportunities don’t end there. Try birding at wildlife-rich spots like Rutkowski Park in Bayonne, the Meadowlands in Secaucus, or Liberty State Park. Go fishing at Rutkowski Park and the Dennis P. Collins Park fishing pier, or look for animals like turtles, fish, and geese at Braddock Park in North Bergen. Enjoy trails, sports, and history at one of Hudson County’s largest parks, Lincoln Park in Jersey City, or head to Stephen R. Gregg Park in Bayonne for basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and more.
