East Coast Greenway Presentation

November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Join us at the Bayonne Public Library on Tuesday, November 12th at 7 pm in the Gallery for a very special presentation about the East Coast Greenway! This presentation is brought to you by the Bayonne Historical Society and The Embankment Coalition.

Maureen Crowley and Stephen Gucciardo, board members of the Embankment Preservation Coalition, will present a program about the Coalition’s historical preservation and green infrastructure project that proposes to connect Bayonne walkers and bicyclists with a regional greenway – The East Coast Greenway.

The Harsimus Branch & Embankment is a decades-in-the-making grassroots effort to preserve the Pennsylvania Railroad’s elevated freight way into New York Harbor for 21st century sustainable uses, including open space, trails, and potential light rail. The rail line and its massive stone structure in Downtown Jersey City are proposed key components of the East Coast Greenway Maine-to-Florida trail through Hudson County.

They will show historical photographs, touch on the many uses the now-forested corridor has for carbon-free transportation, storm water control, and amelioration of climate change effects, as well as explain the Coalition’s vision for its treatment.

This program is open to the public and no advanced registration is required. Light refreshments will be served by the Bayonne Women’s Club.
