Stage Door Series: Dance & Democracy
Nimbus’ Stage Door Series returns with the premiere of a documentary film by Jersey City filmmaker Mark Smith about Nimbus’ new community initiative: Dance & Democracy. Over the last 3 months, 8th Grade Students from Jersey City Middle School #4 have been exploring how democracy works…through Dance! In a parallel process, the professional dancers of Nimbus developed an allegorical new work, Raucous Caucus Tango, referencing the state of democracy.
Filmmaker Mark Smith of o7 Films captures the highs and lows of what it means to practice Democracy in today’s world; meanwhile, Cristina Marte gives insight into how dance can facilitate understanding and personal connection to democracy among young people (and future leaders!).
